Feeling bright & amazing at every stage of life - what Essence & Spirit have to do with it.

Hello, beautiful beings! Happy Full Moon in Scorpio πŸŒ•

I recently came across this beautiful quote from the great Carl Jung, and it was a big piece of the inspiration behind this moon's podcast episode:

"The privilege of a lifetime is to become who you truly are."

Isn't that just a beautiful perspective?? In Chinese Medicine, we have a similar idea: that our essence (our connection to our ancestors and the Earth) and our spirit (our connection to the Heavens, the Universe or the zero-point field of all possibility) align to support us in living our life destiny.

And our body-mind-souls are always giving us nudges about how to come even more into alignment. Every time we feel good, or lighter, after connecting with a specific person, place, activity, food, idea, thought, emotion, task, etc., this is a whisper from our spirit that we are on the right track. More in the latest episode, "Essence & Spirit".

Did you know??
If someone is snotty or phlegmy,
we remove sweet flavours and fruits (like Chinese dates) from any herbal formula that we give them.

This is because sweet flavours are seen as "nourishing the fluids", so if someone is already dealing with excess fluids or phlegm, we don't want to compound the issue.

YOU CAN APPLY THIS IDEA YOURSELF
If you are actively kicking a cold, or dealing with congestion, give your system a break. Cut out all sugars (yes - that means natural ones like fruit too!) and marvel at the difference.

This can also be a good idea for those in wet climates (hello, Gold Coast right now! My husband half-joked that it's more like the "Mould Coast" at the moment 🀣😭)

What do "Essence" & "Spirit" have to do with longevity, health & happiness??

Have you heard of the Three Treasures? They determine if we are feeling great, aging vibrantly, manifesting our destiny and living our soul purpose. So.... just a few things!

Together with our Qi, our Jing (Essence) and our Shen (Spirit) make up the Three Treasures - treasures, because they are the precious substances that form the foundation for our health and longevity.

Jing = our DNA, our genetic endowment, our constitution.

Qi = our energetic and metabolic processes that govern daily function, like digestion, respiration, circulation, cellular function, tissue structure and integrity (more in episode 41).

Shen = our spirit, our presence, our consciousness - the spark of life in our eyes.

Jing-Qi-Shen are interrelated - when they are in coherence and harmony, we manifest our soul purpose in this life. We feel lighter, clearer and more vibrant - and are well resourced for life’s adventures.

Many of our Chinese Medicine health cultivation practices centre around preserving and refining the Three Treasures - I share simple daily practices you can incorporate to boost your Qi, protect your Essence and help your Spirit shine bright!

β€’ Breathwork

β€’ Stillness & slowness

β€’ balance between Yin & Yang

Did you catch the list of no-tox and low-tox product swaps in my recent post?

Our skin absorbs what it comes into contact with - just like our digestion does. And the ancients knew this.

So what are we nourishing our skin - and our selves - with?

Is it to our benefit?

Or is it potentially adding to our toxic load?

Ingredients like parabens, phthalates, sulphates and preservatives are well-known endocrine (hormone) disruptors, and don’t do other systems any favours either.

Another pesky culprit are synthetic fragrances, which can be found in many popular fragrances and scented products like soap, creams, candles, room sprays, laundry liquid, deodorants, etc. This is why I always choose essential oils for any scents in our home.

Reducing the toxins we put in our bodies is a vital foundation for health. It frees the body up to do what it knows best how to do - keep us vibrant and well!

Yin Yang landscape

Hello, beautiful beings! Today, we have the Full Moon in Pisces AND a lunar eclipse πŸŒ• As we step into this eclipse portal (the 2 week window between eclipses) it seems like a perfect time to ponder the interplay of Yin and Yang, dark and light. How do we embrace our shadows and depths within a culture that rewards the dynamic, bright, shiny, active and productive? How do we make space for Yin in a world that reveres the Yang? It's not all love and light While I’ll be the first to encourage...

Yin Yang fish, dance of life

Hello, beautiful beings! Happy Full Moon in Aquarius (tomorrow) πŸŒ• I have found myself having many conversations about Yin and Yang recently, which inspired this newsletter (and upcoming ones). Understanding how to harness the power of Yin and Yang offers us many ways to naturally and simply feel more vital, healthy and radiant. Read to the end for how you can tap into Yin and Yang in daily life. We've all seen the symbol, but what does it actually mean?!And how can we harness Yin and Yang for...

Hello, beautiful beings! Happy Full Moon in Capricorn πŸŒ• In 13 years of practice, I've seen my share of back pain, herniated discs, sciatica and hip pain. Many of these cases felt better with warmth and movement. This is no surprise, because in Chinese Medicine, we say that β€œwhere there is free flow, there is no pain; where there is no free flow, there is pain”. Free movement of energy (Qi) through our meridians allows for optimal health, function and repair – and these meridian stretches are...
