Are you already doing this? And, is perimenopause a "problem"??

Hello, beautiful beings! Happy Full Moon in Sagittarius (yesterday) πŸŒ•

This month, I share a simple habit that can bust pain, ease periods and help to keep UTIs away. Maybe you are already on board and doing this??

And I also share on a topic that I feel particularly strongly about: the current reframing of perimenopause - a natural transition - as a pathology or problem to be solved (medicated). As a scapegoat for whatever is out of balance or calling out for healing. Maybe it's not perimenopause, but self-abandonment?... or putting ourselves last?... or decades of pushing through? ...meals eaten on the run (or skipped entirely)?

What if perimenopause is not a "problem" to be suppressed or medicated away??

What if it is a portal into a more essential, more exquisitely-aligned version of ourselves? An invitation to re-examine how we do life, and to witness and heal parts of ourselves. An initiation into our wisdom and power.

In Chinese Medicine, perimenopause is considered the β€œSecond Spring”. A second puberty, a second metamorphosis. When we reflect on what a wild ride that first puberty was, we can begin to see the grace, space and compassion that we can offer ourselves in this transition.

Patients have shared with me that they have felt gaslit by the mainstream system, where their various concerns were instantly dismissed as "just perimenopause", and HRT was offered as the only solution. But it is no coincidence that symptoms like fatigue, low moods, irritability, low libido, poor sleep and weight gain can show up at this time of our life. These symptoms can also be a reflection of decades of caring for others at the cost of ourselves: of people-pleasing, over-giving and under-receiving..

In Chinese Medicine, we see β€œsymptoms” as wise messages from the body. As an insight into what desires to be balanced or healed. In this episode, I share some of these common messages, and simple ways that we can support ourselves to move most easefully through this powerful portal!

Did you know that keeping your feet warm can ease UTIs, period pain and pain in the hips & back?

The meridians / channels that wrap our pelvic bowl begin in the feet, and so keeping these pathways warm & supple can go a long way to supporting smooth menstrual flow, optimal bladder function AND easing pain in the region (back, hip, sacroiliac, etc.)

Some modern research, exploring the effects on the pelvic region when cooling / warming the feet, has once again highlighted what ancient sciences knew and advised for millennia. Warmth is flow, and warmth is Life.

Try this for yourself and let me know what you notice. Plus it’s cosy! ☺️

PS. this applies at any time of year, not just Winter! πŸ₯Ά

Yin Yang landscape

Hello, beautiful beings! Today, we have the Full Moon in Pisces AND a lunar eclipse πŸŒ• As we step into this eclipse portal (the 2 week window between eclipses) it seems like a perfect time to ponder the interplay of Yin and Yang, dark and light. How do we embrace our shadows and depths within a culture that rewards the dynamic, bright, shiny, active and productive? How do we make space for Yin in a world that reveres the Yang? It's not all love and light While I’ll be the first to encourage...

Yin Yang fish, dance of life

Hello, beautiful beings! Happy Full Moon in Aquarius (tomorrow) πŸŒ• I have found myself having many conversations about Yin and Yang recently, which inspired this newsletter (and upcoming ones). Understanding how to harness the power of Yin and Yang offers us many ways to naturally and simply feel more vital, healthy and radiant. Read to the end for how you can tap into Yin and Yang in daily life. We've all seen the symbol, but what does it actually mean?!And how can we harness Yin and Yang for...

Hello, beautiful beings! Happy Full Moon in Capricorn πŸŒ• In 13 years of practice, I've seen my share of back pain, herniated discs, sciatica and hip pain. Many of these cases felt better with warmth and movement. This is no surprise, because in Chinese Medicine, we say that β€œwhere there is free flow, there is no pain; where there is no free flow, there is pain”. Free movement of energy (Qi) through our meridians allows for optimal health, function and repair – and these meridian stretches are...
